Acct 315 Create Your Own Tableau Public Visualization Week 4

Purpose of the Assignment This assignment allows you to demonstrate your ability to select, analyze, and visualize data using Tableau. You will choose your own dataset, create a Tableau visualization, publish it to Tableau Public, and provide an analysis explaining your design choices and insights. This assignment encourages creativity, independence, and real-world data storytelling. Part 1 — Choose Your Own Dataset You must select a dataset other than the Superstore dataset or previously used dataset. Your dataset may come from any of the following sources: Acceptable Data Sources • Kaggle Datasets (kaggle.com/datasets) • Data.gov (public government data) • World Bank Data (data.worldbank.org) • City or State Open Data Portals • Sports Data (NBA, NFL, MLB, FIFA datasets) • Financial or Accounting Data (e.g., SEC 10-K extracted data) • Survey data you create (minimum of 20 responses) • Any other publicly available dataset with greater than 100 rows If you’re unsure whether your dataset qualifies, please ask. Part 2 — Create Your Tableau Visualization After selecting your dataset: 1. Open Tableau Desktop or Tableau Public (free). 2. Connect to your chosen dataset. 3. Clean or prepare the data as needed (rename fields, remove blanks, etc.). 4. Create one or more visualizations that effectively communicate insights from the data. Your visualization(s) may include at least 3 different types of visualizations: • Bar charts • Line charts • Scatter plots • Maps • Highlight or filter actions • Dashboards combining multiple views Your final viz must be meaningful, clear, and interactive. Part 3 — Publish Your Viz to Tableau Public Once your visualization is complete: 1. Go to File → Save to Tableau Public. 2. Log into your Tableau Public account. 3. Confirm your viz appears on your Tableau Public profile. 4. Copy the public link (URL) to your published visualization.
