Interviewing a former EL who attended school through the U.S. education system may help you build empathy for the unique challenges of being a student while also trying to learn English. It will also help you understand how support for ELs has evolved. Preparation Use the English Learner (EL) Interview Questions and information provided in it to prepare for and conduct your interview. After your interview, review the notes you recorded. Assignment Deliverable Write a 350- to 700-word reflection in which you include: • A brief introductory paragraph that describes the former EL student, where they went to school, and what they do for a living now • A question and response section with the questions you chose for the interview and the responses from the former EL student • A conclusion that explains what you learned from the interview and the implications for working with elementary-level EL students in your future classroom Submit your reflection.
