Use this scenario for the assignment: You are currently teaching preschool at a local school district and your school superintendent has asked you to develop a brief presentation to share with new and incoming early childhood teachers during the New Teacher Training Institute at the beginning of the upcoming school year. Your superintendent has asked you to include the following in your presentation: Describe the role that language plays in reading development. Include references to the simple view of reading and Scarborough’s reading rope model. Describe the typical stages of language development in children. Explain current language acquisition theories. Select and identify 2 pieces of children’s literature to use as read-alouds. Briefly explain how each might serve as a resource to teach speaking, language, and/or listening skills in an early childhood classroom. For each piece of literature, create 1 or 2 objectives and an activity that could be used to address speaking, language, or listening skills. Choose 1 of the following methods to convey the information you have prepared for the New Teacher Training Institute presentation: Video: Develop a Microsoft® Word document of speaking points you will follow and use it to create a 3- to 4-minute video of yourself sharing the information. Slide presentation: Use software such as Microsoft® PowerPoint® or Prezi® and create a 15-slide presentation that includes speaker notes. Cite the 2 selected children’s books and any other resources consulted for your video or slide presentation. Format your citations and references according to APA guidelines.   Submit your assignment.
