Sleep is a human need—without it, our bodies deteriorate in multiple ways. Maintaining a consistent, restful sleep pattern is critical for both mental and physical health. Listen to “Episode 116: The Science of a Good Night’s Sleep” by Drew Ackerman from The Science of Happiness podcast. Complete the “What’s Your Sleep IQ?” test linked on p. 347 in Ch. 13, “Sleep, Dreaming, and Circadian Rhythms,” of your textbook. Respond to the following questions: • Are you someone who remembers their dreams? What are the potential reasons for remembering or not remembering dreams? How does this speak to your “sleep IQ” from the quiz? • Think of a recent dream that you are comfortable sharing about. What emotions took place during your dream? How did these emotions carry over into your waking state once you awoke from the dream? • How do the chemical reactions that take place during sleep explain your reactions to dreams once you’re awake?
