Human interactions and behaviors are all influenced by neurochemicals in the body called neurotransmitters. These neurotransmitters differ in structure and function. In this assessment, you’ll explore the major neurotransmitters in the brain, as well as examine the role of neurotransmitters in the neurological disorders of 2 case study patients.   Assessment Preparation Scenario: You have been invited to present at a prestigious conference sponsored by a major pharmaceutical company. This conference is well known for discussions in neurochemistry, mental health, and pharmacological advancements. They have asked you to provide the audience with an overview of some of the major neurotransmitters in the human brain and deconstruct the impact of individual neurotransmitters. You also want to speak on how neurotransmitters are influenced by psychotropic medication, as the pharmaceutical company is about to launch their new mental health awareness campaign.  Complete the following in preparation: Read the Neurotransmission: Neurotransmitters fact sheet from the Dana Foundation to learn about different types of neurotransmitters. Review the “Stories of the Brain” section beginning on p. 52 in Ch. 3, “Synapses and Neurotransmitters,” of your textbook. You will use the brief case studies of Kurt and Jean Marie as examples in your presentation. Review Section 3.3, “An Overview of Major Neurotransmitters,” beginning on p. 65 in Ch. 3, “Synapses and Neurotransmitters,” of your textbook to learn the most common neurotransmitters and the functions of each.  Assessment Deliverable Create a 10- to 12-slide presentation in which you provide the audience with a valuable overview of neurotransmitters and deconstruct the impact of the individual neurotransmitters of the human brain. Address the following in your presentation: Identify the major neurotransmitters and their basic functions. Using the case studies of Kurt and Jean Marie from your textbook, explain the following:  How changes in their brains’ neurotransmitters may have influenced the diagnostic labels offered for each of them  How these neurotransmitters are inhibitory or excitatory in their respective cases  How changes in the levels of these neurotransmitters impact the body and behavior in their respective cases  How the use of psychotropic medication may affect these neurotransmitters and what these effects may have on behavior for each of them   Cite at least 2 peer-reviewed, scholarly references.
