As children develop, we see them begin to form stronger friendships and relationships. However, how they think of themselves and how they relate to others socially shifts. There is a stronger importance to be part of a friend group, leading to concerns of “fitting in” and the fear of being bullied. While bullying tends to peak in the middle school years (ages 11–14), children as young as 3 may begin using aggressive or early bullying behaviors to defend their toys, personal space, and friendships.
