Policy manuals provide reference and guidance to educators about different decisions and actions that apply in a school district. School boards determine the policies and procedures, and administrators execute and enforce those policies and procedures. Note: A policy manual is not a school handbook, a teacher handbook, or a master agreement. Policy manuals are usually located on your school district’s website (not on an individual school’s website), often in the School Board tab or section. To become more familiar with policy manuals, locate the policy manual for your local school district. If you want to use an Arizona school district, visit the policybridge page from ASBA. Choose a school district and review the Student and Personnel sections in the district’s policy manual. Write a 525- to 700-word paper using Microsoft® Word in which you do the following: • Introduce the school district you chose and why you chose it. Include the district’s mission, vision, and goals. Explain whether or not they align with your educational philosophy. • Select and summarize two important policies that are covered in the student section. Discuss why you selected these policies and what makes them so important. • Select and summarize two important policies that are covered in the staff or personnel section. Discuss why you selected these policies and what makes them so important. • For each policy you selected, reflect on the year it was written or revised and any federal or state laws that are referenced or connected to the policy. Include a reference page with an APA-formatted link to the district policy manual.
