Live Class Meeting Requirements • All doctoral (600+ Level) courses include optional synchronous Live Class Meetings with an instructor. Dates and times of meetings will be set by faculty based on input from students. • Any or all of the live meetings can be made up through the completion of the alternative assignment, below. Meeting times and days will be presented by the instructor in the first unit after polling students for the most convenient time. This time will be indicated in the Announcements. • These are a critical part of your program, and designed to help you build a community of inquiry. This valuable time together is an opportunity to connect with your colleagues and ask important questions of your instructor. Please join us having read all assigned materials and ready to demonstrate both your knowledge of key points in the readings and personal reflection to them. Preparing notes to guide your comments is encouraged. Live Class Meeting Alternative Assignment Students missing a scheduled live class meeting (or arriving more than 10 minutes late) can replace that lost opportunity with the Alternative Assignment. As with the class meeting, the goal of the alternative assignment is to allow you to demonstrate active engagement in the class and for your peers to benefit from this engagement. Live Class meetings will be recorded and uploaded to the Announcements in Canvas. For the Alternative Assignment you will complete these steps: • Complete the assignment as a whole. Please note that the due date for the preparation assignment does not change regardless of whether you can attend live class or not. • If you have a peer that is willing and able, engage with them in this activity to ensure you are able to engage in an active discussion. This assignment is due within 24 hours of the missed class session, or at the time designated by the instructor, and holds the same point value as the missed meeting. Your grade will appear under the Live Class Meeting assignment with a note in the comment section that the Alternative Assignment replaced Live Participation. Your commentary will be evaluated according to the standards of the Class Meeting Rubric. Students are responsible for content in the Live Class meeting in other learning activities as indicated in your course. Grading Criteria Please refer to the Live Class Participation Rubric Download Live Class Participation Rubric for guidance.
